Botanical name: Shorea atrivernosa Sym
Family: Dipterocarpaceae.
Grows in: South-East Asia. Mainly exported from the Malaysian provinces of Sabah and Sarawak.

When fresh, the heartwood of Bangkirai is a yellow to grey-brown colour, sometimes with a reddish hue. In daylight, it initially quickly colours to grey.
Bangkirai with its good mechanical qualities and durability is an ideal wood type for outdoor purposes.
