Muiracatiara (Astronium fraxinifolium Schott)

Muiracatiara, also known as Gonçalo alves, is a versatile type of wood with a very striking, exceptional appearance.

The growth area of Muiracatiara is in Central and South America. Trade shipments come primarily from Brazil.

Smaragd Muiracatiara is also very decorative. The freshly worked heartwood has an orange/brown colour, usually shot through with dark brown veins. After finishing and exposure to light the colour becomes orange/red/brown to deep brown with black stripes or flames, henci it is also known as “tigerwood”. Muiracatiara is an excellent replacement for the much more expensive cherry wood.

Smaragd Muiracatiara floor sections are available in the following dimensions.
